Are You an Armchair Law of Attraction Practitioner
Just the other day I was riding in the car with a friend of mine. She was talking about how well she practices the Law of Attraction but she can’t seem to get things to go how she wants them. Then the subject changed to her boyfriend and that’s when I found out she was an Armchair LOA Practitioner (or ALOAP)!
Many people love the concept of the Law of Attraction: “Think about what you want and it comes right to you…wow…what a concept!” But as we all know there is much more to it than just thinking. There are the many negative emotions we have to be careful of; the thinking and feeling of being grateful in what is sometimes a less-than-grateful situation, focusing on your desires (not on the don’t wants of life), living a joyful life in spite of what is seemingly around you, releasing negative mental patterns, and being ready to take action when the Universe provides you a perfect opportunity for your desire to manifest.
These are just a few of the many steps in the Law of Attraction. Some people decide that they will quit whenever applying the Law of Attraction intentionally seems to become a more little complicated. But in fact it is all very simple…you have to work on your inner self and then your outer world will become what you feel from within.
When my friend began to talk about her boyfriend she told me how arrogant he could be when he is on the phone with customers. (He’s in marketing) She said it upsets her so much and they argue about it. Then she says to me, “But I allow. I practice the LOA with him so I am allowing. Not condoning, mind you, but allowing his thoughts.” Then she proceeds to tell me that he frustrates her when he doesn’t call when he is going to be late.
My friend is an Armchair Law of Attraction Practitioner. My ALOAP friend talks about her boyfriend negatively and puts all those feelings and thoughts out to the Universe and then says that she ‘allows’ him to be who he is. Then she continues to tell how wrong he is. She is not allowing. Allowing means to observe another’s behavior and let them be who they are without any opinion from you and ‘letting their behavior go’ so that it doesn’t affect your world that you create.
An ALOAP knows all the buzz words and knows what should be focused on but doesn’t put any of it into action. They just say what they know about the Law of Attraction without taking any of the steps to apply it.
You have to be an active part of the Law of Attraction. Applying the Law of Attraction intentionally is only theory until you practice what you preach. Sure the Law of Attraction works whether you apply it or not but when you begin to delve into what it takes to intentionally apply it; there is work to be done on the inner you.
It won’t get done by sitting in the armchair and pontificating about how well the Law of Attraction will work. Take action, apply the LOA, and your life will become the life that you have always dreamed of.

This article discusses some introductory economics for the armchair economist, namely the basic principles of economics that can be seen anywhere and everywhere.
What is Economics?
The US economy? The UK economy? Gross Domestic Product? International trade? Finance? Well, yes and no, but mostly no. In short, economics is about rational human beings making choices, and the how and why behind those choices. Economics can also usually answer the other interrogatives as well (who, what, when, where, and how much). Economics solves mysteries about human behavior. In some cases, this can be called sociological economics or psychological economics. Attempting to solve these mysteries is made easier with the use of assumptions and models, which I will delve into a bit later. Again, there may never be an absolute solution to a particular “mystery,” but proposing some ideas doesn’t hurt.
A real-life example that illustrates the answering of the aforementioned “interrogatives”
Yesterday, I bought some Peanut Butter M&M’s (my favorite candy) at CVS.
* Who? Me, obviously. Unless I paid them or provided a service for them, what incentive would someone else have to go buy me candy?
* What? Peanut Butter M&M’s. The M&M’s cost the same as a Crunch bar, but I benefit more from the M&M’s because I enjoy them more.
* When? Around 2:00 PM. Up until that time, the benefit of eating the M&M’s didn’t outweigh the cost walking down to CVS to get them. Thus I didn’t have a high enough demand for them until 2:00.
* Where? CVS. There, the M&M’s cost $.79. At Harris Teeter, they cost $.99. The obvious benefit is a savings of $.20. This is, of course, ignoring the fact that Harris Teeter is about 2 miles from my house whereas CVS is right down the street, thus CVS is even more beneficial.
* Why? Simply put, the benefits of receiving and eating the M&M’s obviously were greater than the cost of acquiring them.
* How? I walked to CVS. I could have driven my truck or ridden a bike, but for me the cost of walking was less than that of driving or pedaling.
* How much? 1 pack. I bought 1 pack instead of 2 because the marginal benefit of the second pack of M&M’s was not greater than its cost.
Assumptions
One of the key aspects of introductory economics is assumptions. Assumptions allow us to simplify the seemingly complex world in which we live and make certain aspects of it easier to understand. Essentially, they simplify situations or issues and make problem-solving easier and more approachable. For example, if we wanted to approach or understand international trade, we could assume that there are only two countries in the world and that each country produces only two goods. This is, in fact, the example that introductory economics textbooks use. While quite an unrealistic situation, the assumption simplifies the concept and we are able to have a better understanding and a narrower focus. Assumptions comprise the framework of economics, and everything and anything related to economics is built upon certain underlying assumptions.
Models
In third grade, I made a model of the solar system by attaching different sized painted styrofoam balls to some wire clothes hangers. Similarly, economists use models like diagrams and equations which are built with assumptions. Just like my model in third grade simplified the solar system, economic models attempt to simplify reality in order to better understand it.

World Cup South Africa 2010- feast for the Armchair Footy Fan
In the old days, not so very long ago, you donned your scarf and bobble hat and with flask in hand set out in all weathers to follow your favourite team and, win , lose or draw, you’d be there the following week. For away games you listened to second half commentary on Radio 2, if your team was top of the league.. ‘We join listeners to the World Service.’
The advent of local radio and a wise up by the BBC gave us full match commentary either regionally or nationally. The FA Cup Final meant something and was the only domestic fixture given full coverage, with an early morning start with special editions of ’it’s a Knockout’ and ’Alas Smith & Jones’ to whet our appetite for the main event. We made do with Match of the Day with it’s main game and second fixture, not always from the top flight,and definately not all the goals. Going to the match was the best option by a country mile.
This was how we got by until the Premier League landed and ITV’s ’The Big Match’ and the advent of Sky and ‘Monday Night football’ with fireworks, dancing girls and inflated sumo wrestlers at half time. Live coverage started hours before and after the match and analysis of every incident with ‘new technology’ meant we saw the legs of the presenters as they trotted over to ever more elaborate flashing mock ups of the action. Referees became the 23rd player on the pitch. Controversy was given more air time than the goals as broadcasters had to fill the extra program time afforded to them by having a dedicated sports channel. We were enticed into watching all the action from Scotland, and crunch clashes between Hibs and Arbroath were given build ups previously reserved for World Cup Finals.
And thus the armchair fan was born. Fans who went to the match, who had forked out hard earned cash on season tickets , rather than a subscription, found kick off times moved to facilitate live coverage. People with only a passing interest in the game were able to divert their tv viewing from invasive reality shows to live football coverage several times a week and became authorites on the match spoon fed by the TV directors and rolling news channels. Suddenly everyone had an opinion. The argument ‘what do you know , you weren’t there’ held no weight. We were all there ! whether snuggled up at home in our armchair or sat cramped in an under faciltated stadium, taking an hour to leave the car park etc etc.
In this multi media saturated age we are all ,whether we admit it or not, armchair footy fans to some degree. In June 2010 most of us will have no choice. All credit to those going out to South Africa, bring back the cup with you. I have no axe to grind . I am a footy fan who goes to the match when I can (come on you Blues !) I have a sky subscription and watch quite a bit of live footy on TV. I do not know who holds the moral high ground . There are those who detest armchair fans with a vengeance. Informed debate and banter is good for the game.
