,Amazon is a lifesaver. Well, perhaps not literally a lifesaver but it is definitely a time and money saver. OK, I may fess up. I really hate to shop, particularly with my better half during the vacations. In truth, I can’t even think of anything more painful than to be dragged from store to store in a crowded mall, hunting for presents. I often beg off these shopping expeditions, letting my wife bear all the burden of making gift-giving decisions, without a second thought. this previous Yuletide was a little different and I had to get involved.
You see, the past two years have been a little tough financially for us. Like so many other American industries, my employer was hit hard by the recession and employees had to make some concessions. I’m still employed and grateful for it, but like countless other folks these days, I had to take a pay cut – 20% in reality – to keep the company afloat and help others keep their roles. So, my better half, who had been out of the work force for a bit, raising three active youngsters, went back to work. It’s been a great help financially, but a terrible drain on her spare time. Sure, it’s only a part time job, but that part-time uses up all her free time – she is still running kids around, taking care of the house and making sure our lives continue to run smoothly. Sparetime for Christmas shopping was certainly limited this year.
Seeing her levels of stress rise and wanting to do my part, I offered to look after Christmas shopping this year. Well, perhaps not look after all of it, but indubitably a significant portion of it. To my dismay, my other half jumped on the offer, she really wanted me to deal with the shopping. Fortuitously, Amazon came to my rescue. What a difference shopping on Amazon made. Instead of spending my precious free time fighting crowds in the mall, I spent time at home with my family. Instead of poring over sales flyers and clipping coupons, I skimmed online and instead of lugging shopping bag after shopping bag to the auto, I waited for the UPS man to deliver.
Shopping at Amazon for Xmas gifts was a pleasure. One night my better half and I sat down in front of the fire and put a shopping list together. The following night, I took care of it all. From the comfort of my living room, drinking hot chocolate, listening to Yuletide music, while watching the snowfall, I shopped on the internet.
Amazon has come a long way from its beginnings as an internet bookstore. Today, together with its affiliate stores, it not only sells books, but everything from PCs to jewellery, to sporting goods and even groceries. Amazon even sells digital music and films, all at an acceptable price and with complementary shipping frequently thrown in. Now this is the way a man likes to shop.
From the comfort of my leather armchair, I was able to buy my teen child the digicam she had been asking for, my son the fantastic new Ipod touch and for my youngest girl the Razor scooter she had been craving. I even purchased my bookworm better half the new Kindle, so that she can keep up with her reading no matter where she’s at. While I was at it, I purchased the whole family a new Wii game system along with the Wii fit game and balance board and of course, Super Mario bros. I got all this and more, at the best prices available, and received free shipping.
Xmas shopping truly isn’t such a chore anymore. Actually, I loved shopping with Amazon so much this year ; I volunteered to take care of buying Xmas next year.
